FAQS & Answers

Probate is the legal process of settling a deceased person’s estate. It involves validating their will, paying debts and taxes, identifying assets, and distributing property to the inheritors or beneficiaries. If there is no will, the court follows state laws to determine asset distribution.

Some examples of assets are real estate, personal property (vehicles, jewelry, etc.) bank accounts, and investment accounts.

There are some assets that will not go through probate. Some examples are retirement accounts, life insurance policies, and assets that are held in joint tenancy.
